On a system mechanics side, the lack of a universal throw or many grounded overheads leads to a lot of characters being entirely unable to mix the opponent on block, leading many to play the timer. This leads to some very interesting balance choices, like Joe being incredibly weak, or Sagat's unbelievable defense. It even adds custom endings for every character, giving you more of a reward for going through the story with every character. This game was largely balanced around the singleplayer experience, much like the original. It comes with a multitude of new mechanics that make it insanely unique from the source series, like a 4 button KOF style layout, runs, universal gatling/cancel tables, and the notable lack of a throw on a majority of characters.
